Act now to participate in faith-based activities at AIDS 2010

27. April 2010

Here are two important ways to ensure your involvement in faith-based activities at the upcoming International AIDS Conference (IAC) in Vienna, Austria, this July:

    1. Register for the Multi-Faith Pre-Conference (17 July)

Centered on the theme, Rights Here, Right Now: What's faith got to do with it?, 250 faith-based participants will

    • explore, with a diverse range of plenary speakers, how faith traditions compel us to achieve universal access to HIV treatment, care, support and prevention, and can overcome existing barriers to such access
    • actively participate in breakout sessions to discuss theological and practical responses to HIV and AIDS in more depth
    • network with people of faith involved in the global response to HIV and AIDS
    • prepare and strategize for faith-based participation in the IAC
    • take part in opening and closing prayer and reflection

For more information and to register online, go to www.e-alliance.ch/en/s/hivaids/iac2010/. The registration fee of 75 Euros includes lunch and coffee/tea. You can also download a flyer to send to your networks to advertize the event as widely as possible.

    2. Apply to run a session in the Multi-Faith Networking Zone (18-23 July)

The Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance is seeking innovative, informative and inclusive proposals for sessions at the Multi-Faith Networking Zone at the IAC Global Village.

The Zone will provide a space for people of faith to share their experiences of HIV and AIDS, engage in inter-faith dialogue, exchange best practices and foster collaboration. In addition, the Zone will introduce Austrian and international visitors alike to the breadth and depth of faith communities' work in response to HIV and AIDS around the world. It will be a testament to people working together despite differences of faith and, in particular, will highlight ways in which faith communities can fight stigma and discrimination associated with HIV.

Submit ideas for events, prayers, workshops, music, theatre, displays and more by 28 May to rfoley [at] e-alliance.ch. Find more information at www.e-alliance.ch/en/s/hivaids/iac2010/.
