Interfaith Prayer Breakfast: Webcast available to promote strong leadership in the AIDS response

8. June 2011

The Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance, UNAIDS, UNFPA, the Ford Foundation and a number of global religious partners are hosting an Interfaith Prayer Breakfast in New York on Friday, 10 June in conjunction with the United Nations High Level Meeting on HIV and AIDS. The event will promote leadership and accountability for the implementation of the new outcome document. Over 100 leaders from different sectors, including religious leaders, political leaders, business leaders, people living with HIV and representatives of key population groups are expected to attend. Building on the success of the Summit of High Level Religious Leaders on the Response to HIV that was held in the Netherlands in March 2010, the Interfaith Prayer Breakfast will promote dialogue among the different sectors and forge new partnerships for strengthened collaboration in the response to HIV.

The Interfaith Prayer Breakfast will be held on Friday, 10 June from 8:00 – 9:30 New York time (12:00 – 13:30 GMT). This historic event will be shown around the world via live webcast. Use the webcast to host a parallel event in your own country

As a sign of solidarity, faith-based organizations and religious communities around the world are encouraged to host a parallel event on or after 10 June. These events can take many forms: formal or informal affairs, gatherings around a meal or simply to just watch the webcast together, interfaith or with a single religious tradition.
