New Executive Director Bio

Peter N. Prove, EAA Executive Director as of 1 July 2010, served as Assistant to the General Secretary for International Affairs and Human Rights in The Lutheran World Federation, Geneva, Switzerland, since 1997.  A lawyer by profession, he holds a Masters of Law from the University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia, with combined focuses on international trade law and international human rights law.  He was a member of the EAA Strategy Group on Global Trade for the duration of the EAA Trade Campaign.  He also represented the EAA as a member of the United Nations International Task Team on HIV-related travel restrictions.

Prove served from 2000 to 2008 as President of the Special Committee of NGOs on Human Rights (Geneva), and has extensive experience of engagement with UN human rights and economic policy forums.  He has represented the LWF in a number of major international conferences, including the World Conference Against Racism (where he coordinated the advocacy of over 200 civil society activists) and the recent UN Climate Change Conference in  Copenhagen.  He has recently been appointed as a member of the Expert Advisory Group to the UNCTAD program on Responsible Lending and Borrowing.

He was a founding member of the International Dalit Solidarity Network (IDSN), and of the International NGO Committee on Human Rights in Trade and Investment (INCHRITI). Prior to taking up his present role in Geneva, he had 11 years experience in private legal practice in Brisbane, Australia.  He is a member of the Lutheran Church of Australia.  Born in 1963, Prove is married and has two children.
