Fast for Life! Take time to pray and commit to reducing food waste and injustice

30. January 2013

“Fast for Life” encourages all of us to consider hunger in this world and take the steps we can to reduce food waste. For some of us, that is addressing our own consumer habits, for others it may be working with local farmer networks or advocating with government for support to minimize harvest and storage losses.

“Fast for Life” takes place on Ash Wednesday – 13 February – while the emphasis on food justice applies all through Lent, indeed all through the year.

A Fast for Life worship service is now available in English and soon in Spanish and French. The liturgy can be used in its entirety or adapted for your context.

Sign the Fast for Life Pledge! Reflect on hunger, food waste, and consumer behavior and consider making your own commitment to do what you can to reduce food waste and advocate for food justice. Sign on-line at www.e-alliance.ch/en/s/food/sustainable-consumption/fast-for-life/ or print out the pledge form on the resources page and share with your family, church or community group.

Worship and Bible Study resources, action ideas, and links for further study and discussion are available at www.e-alliance.ch/en/s/food/sustainable-consumption/fast-for-life-resources/

Let us know what you are doing on the Food for Life Facebook page or by emailing ccampeau@e-alliance.ch

In the spirit of Christian stewardship, let’s take this moment to reflect and act to reduce food waste and over-consumption, and to promote the right to food for all people.
