Worship Service on Climate Change and the Ringing of Bells

Join with churches, Christian organizations and people of faith around the world in prayer, study and action on 13 December 2009 with the ringing of bells 350 times.  This will take place during the Copenhagen Conference that will be held 7th-18th December 2009.

Climate change is taking place at a time of increasing demand for food, and this has the potential to irreversibly damage the natural resource base on which agriculture depends. The relationship between climate change and agriculture is a two-way street; agriculture contributes to climate change in several major ways and climate change in general adversely affects agriculture. Extreme climate events (floods and droughts) are increasing and expected to amplify in frequency and severity, There are likely to be significant consequences in all regions for food and forestry production and food insecurity.

This UN Copenhagen summit will set the agenda for the next stage of the fight against climate change. We can all take part in this process and make a difference.

Copenhagen Conference on Climate Change - What can I do

Worship

Your church, women’s group, prayer circle, club or school is encouraged to join people from all over the world in prayer on 13 December with the ringing of bells 350 times signifying the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere according to many scientists, climate experts, and progressive national governments. For all of human history until about 200 years ago, our atmosphere contained 275 ppm of CO2, but now the concentration stands at 390 ppm.
