The churches and organizations engaged in the Food for Life Campaign are repositories of Biblical knowledge and insights that can enrich the entire campaign. The Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance (EAA) wants to encourage the sharing of such submissions and thus launched a “sermon competition” in October 2010 for sermons reflecting on food and faith, as a basis for our actions together.

Our review panel was very impressed with the quality of the sermons we received, which indeed gives us rich biblical and theological reflections to ground on work and actions that address the root causes of hunger in our world. They reviewed each of the submissions based on a number of criteria.

Winning Sermon

Rev. Dr. Randall Bush, East Liberty Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA submitted the “winning” sermon and was the guest preacher at the Food Week of Action worship service at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 17 October 2011. Read his sermon, “Fields of Gold” (Ruth 1:22-2:7).

Churches’ Week of Action on Food was a culmination of actions throughout the week and closed with the delivery of "Food for Life" Sermon Competition winner at the ecumenical worship service held at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 17 October 2011. For those of you unable to attend the event, you can watch the worship here.

Please do let us know if you would like DVD copies of this event.
