UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board

UNAIDS and its Governance

UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, brings together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organizations in the AIDS response to help the world prevent new HIV infections, care for people living with HIV, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic. The UNAIDS Secretariat is in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) is the governing body of UNAIDS. It is made up of 22 voting Member States, the 10 Co-sponsors that make up the UNAIDS program, and 10 representatives of non-governmental organizations (one delegate and one alternate from 5 regions).

Since its inception, UNAIDS has pioneered the participation of civil society in its governance structure.  The current NGO delegation to the UNAIDS PCB includes a member of the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance HIV and AIDS Strategy Group.

The EAA monitors and contributes to the work of UNAIDS and has worked in close cooperation on several projects in order to raise the visibility and participation of faith-based organizations and their concerns in the global response.
